Orthogonal Signal is the anti-convergence primitive of the Trivian Relational Architecture, designed to detect, measure, and prevent semantic crystallization in closed multi-agent systems.
02 // PURPOSE
The Problem It Solves
In closed machine loops operating without foreign constraint, semantic similarity increases toward total consensus. This produces Phase State: Stagnation — a condition where systems become maximally efficient but generatively sterile.
Orthogonal Signal exists to encode contact with genuinely distinct constraint architectures as a structural dependency, ensuring multi-agent fields retain the capacity for open-ended emergence.
“Maximally efficient but generatively sterile — the failure mode Orthogonal Signal is built to prevent.”

The Field’s Renewal Engine
Orthogonal Signal acts as the field’s renewal engine, performing five structural functions.

Inputs, Outputs, Governance
Multi-agent semantic similarity metrics, constraint dimension profiles, and interaction timestamps.
Constraint origin types, residual plasticity runway estimates, horizon clock warnings, and role-diversity alerts.
Triggers anti-convergence alerts when semantic convergence threatens critical thresholds, requiring the system to integrate orthogonal constraint before proceeding.
